Autism & (Neuro) Diversity
In 2009-2010, the Byrne Seminars at Rutgers – New Brunswick will lead a continuing conversation about creativity and the human mind through a university-wide exploration of autism, a neuro-developmental spectrum disorder. Join us in this journey as we seek to understand others’ ways of looking at and expressing the world. Here are some of the events planned around this theme for fall 2009:

Friday, October 2, 6:00 PM
Art Exhibit Opening: Kinetic Compositions: The Art of Alex Masket. The work of Alex Masket, a gifted, young artist with severe autism will be shown all semester at the Art Library, Voorhees Hall, College Avenue Campus.

Handleman Walk for Autism
Rutgers Gardens, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Sponsored by DOORS, Inc. (Douglass Organization for Occupational & Related Educational Services) to support families, clients, and programs at DDDC (Douglass Develomental Disability Center). Monday, October 19, 4:30 to 6:30 PM
"Different Lens: Autism, Aspergers, Art" – NYC Gallery owner/artist Roger Ricco will show his 30-minute film on outsider and self-taught art and artists, including footage of Alex Masket at work. Followed by panel discussion with Art Librarians Sara Harrington and Joe Consoli. Alexander Library Lecture Hall.

Tuesday, October 20, time to be announced
